04 May Bar 31 Opens At No.31 St Thomas Street | London
Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London, one of the city’s leading luxury hotels is delighted to announce the opening of Bar 31. Located at No.31 St. Thomas Street, the new bar has been created by locals, for locals. Artwork depicting the bar’s local community is being crafted on site while talented musicians from the neighbourhood fill the bar with soulful sounds. Offering a carefully selected drinks menu alongside tasty seasonal light bites, Bar 31 is set to be the new favourite in London Bridge.
Situated at the base of The Shard on the busy commuter trail, Bar 31 is unassumingly the closest bar to London Bridge Station and will offer office workers, visitors and locals an authentic welcome into a thriving London neighbourhood. With its floor to ceiling windows and friendly relaxed service, the bar gives a sense that life outside has been brought inside.
The bar’s neighbours happen to be some of London’s most skilled growers, producers and designers who provide an endless flow of inspiration for its menus, interiors and entertainment. Sourcing unique beers from nearby Bermondsey breweries, Bar 31 serves the best of London’s craft beer including Hiver Brewery’s Hiver Blonde honey beer and the dark full-bodied Porter beer from Anspach & Hobday. Local gins and spirits such as Jensen’s Old Tom gin produced nearby at the Bermondsey Distillery, as well as homemade lemonade and a fine selection of cocktails, wines and Champagnes are also available to suit every taste.
Locally sourced ingredients lie at the heart of the food menu which includes carefully crafted bites; for example, the forbidden rice Buddha bowl with kale, fermented vegetables, almond and basil or the black cod wraps. British cured meats from Cannon & Cannon and cheeses from Neal’s Yard Dairy combine to form the perfect sharing plate, especially when paired with a glass of wine.
From Bermondsey and London Bridge to Piccadilly Circus, talented buskers have been recruited from the streets of London to play their music in this new local. With live music every Friday and Saturday night, smooth guitar chords and expressive voices fill the bar, providing an authentic street vibe to this new hotspot. Throughout the year, Bar 31 is set to host a whole range of events from open mic and comedy nights, to art masterclasses and yoga sessions on the outdoor terrace.
Local artists provide the visual back drop for the bar with a collection of newly commissioned installations, many of which are being crafted live on site. Renowned graffiti artist Mr. Cenz, has created a piece in-situ for Bar 31 featuring a local female face. In keeping with the neighbourhood vibe, the walls of the bar are set to display an ever-changing collection of work from skilled city artists. For example, a mosaic entitled ‘A Riot of Colour’ will soon feature on a wall of the bar, having been hand crafted using ceramic pieces that have washed up on the banks of the River Thames and which date back to the Roman times.
The new bar is designed to offer those who visit this vibrant neighbourhood an authentic experience with ever changing surroundings. From lunch time until late, Bar 31 is fast becoming a part of the London Bridge community.
