The Crowne Plaza London Kensington celebrated World Book Day UK with the leading children’s Author and Illustrator Sue Hendra. Local school children from Holy Trinity C of E Primary School and Ashburnham Primary School were treated to and exclusive reading of Sue Hendra’s lastest book – Dave’s Breakfast Blast-off.
The Crowne Plaza London Kensington, SW7’s ultimate neighbourhood hotel, was delighted to announce its collaboration with one of the UK’s leading names in children’s books for World Book Day UK.
Sue Hendra, the inspirational author responsible for family favourites across the UK, including Barry the Fish with Fingers, No-Bot the Robot with no Bottom, and Wanda the Alien, now a hit animation broadcast on Channel 5’s Milkshake!, held an exclusive reading of her latest book ‘Dave’s Breakfast Blast-off’.
Sue introduced the lucky children from the local primary schools aged between five-six to the belly roaring antics of the greedy feline terror Dave. Sue gave a masterclass in storytelling and brought the book to life in her own spirit, followed by an arts and craft session which gave the children the opportunity to explore their own interpretations of this next hit story. Sue Hendra has won many accolades and awards for her work, most notably winning the Red House Children’s Book Award – the only UK book award which is completely decided by children themselves.
Now in its 17th year, World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators and books and most importantly reading. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, the event is now marked in over 100 countries and supported by some of the world’s biggest names in children’s publishing.
Supporting the UNESCO accredited event, Crowne Plaza London Kensington’s library played host to a warm, inspiring and welcoming venue to enjoy a literary escape. Throughout the day, the hotel offered its readers complimentary tea, coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts to enjoy in the comfort of its stylish library, overlooking the hotel’s tranquil townhouse gardens.
The children, staff and parents all had a fantastic day with Sue Hendra and celebrated World Book Day UK in style.
